I have been interested in these practices since early in my military career. This was my attempt to learn to deal with stress, mainly. Then, by 2011, a deployment to Afghanistan rocked my world, and life became tough to deal with. I shut down as a human and tried to fake my wellness throughout life. Inpatient stays at the VA (Veteran Affairs) were commonplace for me. A lot has happened since then, life as you would say. My trip in 2015 to Rishikesh, India, to get my 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training was impactful. I learned a lot about myself and saw the benefits of yoga, meditation, and breathwork on the body and mind. As a direct result, I became much slower in my actions to avoid making a mistake in haste. This doesn’t mean problems don’t arise; they do, every day, for that matter. I still struggle with my mental health, which we all know is a lifetime of work and dedication. Yet, all moments can be seen as opportunities to grow if appropriately trained in the proper practices. Moreover, these practices are genuinely used to know the real you and how you interact with the world around you, as well as a relationship with God.
In March of 2024, I found Jesus and was baptized by April. Before that, I had encounters with Christ at my lowest moments, but would deny him when things got better. The most memorable encounter was when I was in Afghanistan in 2011 and was in a firefight and got wounded and prayed for God to save us, and he did. We took a few casualties, and I was one of them, but we made it out alive, besides our IED Detection Dog (IDD) Cpl. Sugar, we will never forget her for her sacrifice. God protected us on that day, just as he does every day. It would be thirteen years later that I found Christ with the help of my brother Billy and started going to church, and was greatly moved. I continue to be in the faith daily, and thought adding movement (yoga), contemplation (meditation), breath (breathwork), and concentration (mindfulness) would be beneficial for the Christian community.
I look forward to personally working with you all in your journey of healing the body and mind through Christ.
